Child profiles in Bairn allow you to personalize content for each child in your family. These profiles help ensure that stories and podcasts are tailored to the appropriate age group and content preferences for each individual child.

Note: Child profile functionality is currently being refined in the iOS app. Basic functionality is available, with enhanced features being developed.

Why Child Profiles Matter

Content Personalization

  • Age-Appropriate Content: Stories and podcasts are automatically adjusted for your child's age group

  • Content Preferences: System learns from favorite genres and story length preferences

  • Individual Libraries: Each child maintains their own collection of content

Available Child Profile Information

Based on the current implementation, child profiles collect the following information:

Basic Profile Information

  1. Child's Name

  2. Used for personalization in stories and podcasts

  3. Required field for profile creation

  4. Age Group

  5. Choose from: Toddler, Preschool, Elementary, Tween

  6. Determines content complexity and vocabulary level

  7. Required for appropriate content generation

  8. Avatar Selection

  9. Choose from available avatar options

  10. Visual representation for profile identification

  11. Optional but recommended for easy profile recognition

  12. Birth Date

  13. Optional field for more precise age-based content

  14. Can be left blank if you prefer to use age group only

Content Preferences (Optional)

  1. Favorite Genres

  2. Select from available options like Adventure, Science, Animals, Sports, Music, Art, Space, Fantasy, Mystery, History, Nature, Technology

  3. Helps personalize story and podcast recommendations

  4. Can be updated as interests change

  5. Story Length Preference

  6. Short, Medium, or Long story preferences

  7. Influences default story generation settings

  8. Can be overridden during individual story creation

  9. Reading Level

  10. Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced

  11. Affects vocabulary complexity and story structure

  12. Optional setting that can be adjusted over time

  13. Voice and Speech Preferences

  14. Voice preference for narration

  15. Speech speed: Slow, Normal, or Fast

  16. Audio customization for optimal listening experience

Content Filtering (Optional)

  1. Violence Level Settings

  2. None, Mild, or Moderate violence levels allowed

  3. Helps filter content based on family values

Setting Up a Child Profile

Step 1: Access Profile Management

  1. Open the Bairn app

  2. Tap your avatar in the top-right corner of the home screen

  3. Select "Profile" from the menu

  4. Choose "Child Profiles" or similar option

Step 2: Create New Profile

  1. Tap "Create New Profile" or "Add Child Profile"

  2. Enter the child's name (required)

  3. Select age group from the available options:

  4. Toddler (2-4 years): Simple language, basic concepts

  5. Preschool (4-6 years): Familiar words and settings

  6. Elementary (8-10 years): Chapter book level complexity

  7. Tween (10-12 years): Advanced themes and vocabulary

  8. Choose an avatar from the available options

  9. Set birth date (optional but recommended)

Step 3: Configure Preferences (Optional)

  1. Select favorite genres that interest your child

  2. Choose preferred story length for default settings

  3. Set reading level if you want to customize complexity

  4. Configure voice preferences for narration

Step 4: Content Filtering (Optional)

  1. Set maximum violence level allowed in content

  2. Configure scary content permissions

  3. Add any blocked keywords if desired

  4. Enable additional content filters as needed

Managing Multiple Child Profiles

Subscription Limits

  • Novella Plan (Free): 1 child profile

  • Opus Plan (Premium): Up to 5 child profiles

Profile Switching

  • Easy switching between profiles during content creation

  • Each profile maintains its own content library

  • Personalized recommendations for each child

  • Individual listening history and progress tracking

Profile Organization

  • Profiles are sorted alphabetically by name

  • Visual avatars help identify profiles quickly

  • Easy access to edit or delete profiles

Editing and Managing Profiles

Updating Profile Information

  1. Access the profile management screen

  2. Find the profile you want to edit

  3. Tap the edit button (pencil icon)

  4. Make your changes to any of the profile fields

  5. Save the updated profile

Deleting Profiles

  1. Locate the profile in the management screen

  2. Tap the delete button (trash icon)

  3. Confirm deletion when prompted

  4. Note: This action cannot be undone

Profile Data Management

  • All content created for a profile is preserved

  • Profile preferences can be updated at any time

  • Avatar and name changes are reflected immediately

  • Content filtering changes apply to future content generation
